'HELT-UP'
1965 Peterbilt

In May 2004, Sam Helt went to the ATHS Truck Show in Fontana, California. While there he found and purchased the truck that he had always wanted, a 1965 Peterbilt. While visiting with a couple of different individuals he was told that there was a place in Vista, CA that they thought would restore it as he would want it. So he contacted them and had the truck delivered to Vista.

The next four years Sam would check on the progress and went there himself several times to see what was being done. Some progress, but not much. Their company was a very busy one. In November of 2008, he was contacted and ask to pick up his truck, and the parts and pieces , as the business was closing. Thanksgiving week end of that year he made a trip to Vista and hired a trucking company to haul everything to another shop in Cortland, CA.

In January of 2009 he went to check on the truck and there it set, still as was delivered with a promise that they would start on the restoration very soon.. In June of 2009 he rode with a friend to deliver a car to California and they again went to check on the 65 Pete. Same condition. The friend immediately called, yet another trucking company to haul it back to Sam's farm in Missouri.

Sam, his employees and some friends started to work on it themselves, when they got as far as they thought they should go, in November, 2010 it was hauled to Peterbilt of Joplin (MO)

Another year later and it was picked up from Joplin, MO in January 2011 and brought back to the farm.

Wiring, upholstery, flooring and finishing touches were completed there by several very dedicated individuals, in March of 2011. Thanks!!

Finally, after being moved 7 times, and 7 years later it was finished.

Thus, the name “ HELT UP”. Progress was held up more than once and the cost was certainly more than bargained for.
